The Hard Thing About Doing Nothing By Dr. Alan Zimmerman

The Hard Thing About Doing Nothing Is You Never Know When You're Done.

Sounds silly, doesn't it? Yet that's very close to the way a lot of people live their lives. They have no particular direction for their life or their career. They're just putting in time and hope it all works out. Well it's not going to work out.

Imagine a plane full of passengers. The captain comes on the intercom and says, "Thank you for choosing our airline. I'm not exactly sure when we'll take off or when we'll arrive. As a matter of fact, I'm not even sure where we're going. Hopefully, we'll get to where you want to go at the right time. For now, just sit back and enjoy the ride. "

You would probably think "That's the dumbest thing I've ever heard -- a captain who doesn't know where he's going. "Yet how many people who are captains of their own life journey have no idea where they're going or how they'll get there?

One thing is for certain, if you don't have a destination or a goal, you'll end up somewhere you don't want to be. Are you willing to do that? To let your future be determined by chance or circumstance? Or do you want the ability to shape your future and make your dreams come true?

Obviously, you want the latter. And it starts when you take the time to actually write what you want on a piece of paper. Strange as it may seem, the act of writing tells your subconscious mind that of all the millions of possibilities in the world, these few written items are the things you really want. As soon as you write them out, your mind begins to focus on how to bring those things into your life. Try it. It works!

Action for Goal Setting:

Take ten minutes and write, actually write, out what you want to achieve in your life, your job, your relationship, and any other area that is important to you. Then read the list every morning, and watch for the progress you'll begin to make.

Goal Setting - Details, Details, Details By Maureen Staiano

Setting goals is often spoken of as the way to achieve change in our lives. Many people state that they want a change in their life. They want a new job or a new relationship. They want out of their current relationship or they want to be their own boss. People want a change but they are stuck when it comes to actually going about it. They are often unsure of just where to begin. Goal setting is the easy part but what next?

I know for myself when I set the goal of creating my own coaching business it seemed overwhelming. It was important that I do something more than just set a goal. I needed to create a detailed plan.

Just imagine trying to take a trip through a strange area without a map or driving through an area with a map but not for the area you are in. Not only would you seem unsure and confused but you would be lucky if you arrived at your destination at all! Setting goals is similar. The goal is the final destination. Now you need the directions to insure your arrival.

Putting a goal on paper in as great a detail as possible will allow you to see the individual steps you need to take. You can take the larger plan and chunk it down into smaller interim goals. This way you can work on reaching your goal by tackling a smaller goal each day or each week. This creates your map to your individual destination with all the points of interest along the way.

Every journey begins with one step it has been said. Look at these small goals as the baby steps that will get you to where you want to be. If you want to start your own business as I did, begin with a name. Great! One small step accomplished. Who do I want to work with? Once I had that down on paper the second small step was accomplished.

Perhaps you are looking to leave your current job situation. Before you do, get very clear about what you want to do next. Have a detailed picture down on paper about what your new job would look like and I do mean every little thing you can think of down to the hours you would like to work, the pay you would receive, and what the required dress would be.

Maybe you are thinking of ending a relationship that is no longer working. What would your life look like without that person still in it? What would it take to undo this relationship? How would your life be better or worse? Get it down on paper and take a hard look at the plus and minus columns.

On the other end of the spectrum perhaps you are looking to meet someone to have a relationship with. Put down on paper all the things you would like to have in a partner and how your life together would look. Make a list of all the ways you could begin to meet new people and get involved.

The universal law of attraction does exist. You attract into your life what you think about. If you have your goal on paper, in detail and review it each morning and each evening it will be in your thoughts all day and night.

Just be open to what begins to present itself. I have seen this universal law work over and over, not just for myself but for many friends and people I work with. It’s amazing.

So what is your part in all this? Get clear on what you want out of your special life. Get your plan together in detail and start reading it each day and night. Work on the small achievable steps that will get you moving towards your end result. Ask for help when you need it and keep yourself open to what comes your way. Setting goals is important. Creating your plan, your map to get you there, is crucial to success.
